Introducing my new quilt finish, which I've called Evie. It's a pink extravaganza for a new little girl who has joined our extended family.
Island Batik declared March to be the the "It's All Up To You!" month so ambassadors all had a lot of fun creating any project they wanted, with any fabric range.
Honestly, I dithered about with ideas at the start of the month, undecided as to what I'd make. Cushions are always one of my favourites, or table runners are great projects to update a space... but then Evie was born and the pink quilt idea came to life.
I designed it on E8 so I could get an idea of the layout and final size.
To make this quilt, I began with a 2.5" precut strip set of "Precious Pink" and yardage of a pale pink background fabric called "Tea Rose".
I made the fan blocks by cutting 2.5" x 5" pieces and then trimming them down with my wedge ruler. It was then a matter of sitting at my machine and chain piecing all of the tops, trimming, turning out and using my new little roller to press the seams.
After joining 5 blades together, I positioned them at the corners of the block and appliqued them in place with a machine blanket stitch using Aurifil 50wt cotton thread in a bright pink #2530.
Rather than stay with the pink theme for the centre circle pieces, I decided on a dark teal green which (I think) works very nicely against the pink.
The layout is on-point with lavender setting triangles, border and binding to finish it off.
A new pink quilt for a new baby girl.
That is so gorgeous lucky Evie

ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet quilt for a precious baby girl. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteMy, but you've been prolific lately! And how perfect that you could combined an Island Batik challenge with a baby gift! I love it when a challenge quilt can serve double or triple duty. I also enjoy seeing how you use EQ8 to create your quilt designs. I don't use that software very often, but it is sure nice to have at my fingertips when I need it. Pat yourself on the back for finishing this quilt. The parents and baby will love it!
ReplyDeleteI am not a pink gal but that quilt is absolutely stunning! I love the pink in that.
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable quilt, Anorina! It's beautiful and I know Evie will love it! Thanks for sharing it on Monday Musings!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully created with batiks. Reminds me of a hot summer night sunset over tropical waters. The quilt will be perfect for the newborn and will be loved by Evie as she grows.
