My red Kawandi project is complete and I have to just say I love, love, love the texture of this style of project. For this one, I raided my red fabric scrap basket as February is the month of lurrrrrve.
I have a fair amount of red fabric scraps which meant that I had lots of choose from and play with. For the actual stitching, I used a variegated Aurifil cotton thread in 12 wt. I love the variegation of this thread as it works its way from a scarlet red down to a pale pink.
Here's the back of the little quilt with lots of stitchy rows. I stitch these a little differently to when I hand quilt, having smaller stitches on the front, than on the back. When I hand quilt, I like to (try) have them even both front and back.
I am finding these little hand stitched projects very addictive and have already decided on my next one, even though I only finished this one last night.
Can you guess what colour the next one will be?
wow anorina...lovely kawandi in red! and getting a collection too i see...
ReplyDeleteThis just made me so happy when it showed up in my blog feed. What a cheerful delight on a gray day here in the Pacific Northwest!
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing yellow for your next Kawandi, but really, any color you choose will be fantastic. I'm finding it delightful that you've become as addicted to Kawandi as I was at the start. Are you making each of yours the same size? Your colors are wonderful, and your stitching is impeccable! It's great that you used variegated in the red one. I'd hoped to use a variegated in my next Kawandi, but I don't have any in size 12! Will have to see about fixing that problem while at QuiltCon, visiting vendor booths. I've begun my next Kawandi. So far, it's only neutral, low volume prints, with color predominately coming from the thread. As you remarked on IG that people asked you about what to do with them... I'm thinking about making several in the same size, and then see about connecting them to one another by hand. Have you thought of doing that? What do you think of the idea?
ReplyDeleteGreat way to use up your scraps...
