Liberty Crossroads Quilt {Progress}

Liberty Crossroads Quilt by Anorina Morris

I've had a quilt idea brewing in my head since Christmas. I have some Liberty fabric stashed away, that I'd wanted to use. There's really no point hoarding it away forever, so I cut up some of it into 5" squares.

I was going to make a simple quilt with the squares alternating with solid squares. That plan changed slightly, and I'm very pleased with the route it's taken.

Earlier this week, I shared the scrappy crossroads block as a part of the Scrappiness is Happiness Quilt Along I'm doing with the Fat Quarter Shop and Lori Holt. It's a really fun block with lots of pieces.

Rather than cut up the Liberty squares I already had, into 2.5" squares, I kept them whole and am making a slightly different version of the quilt.

The blocks are slightly larger which is perfectly fine because I'm going to try and make this into a large king size quilt for my bed. Ideally, I'd like to have this finished this month, but realistically, we're going to be away for over a week (starting mid next week) so I'll have to be super organised this weekend and get los of blocks sewn ... or just plan to have it done in February. Well, when I say done, the quilt top at least.

  1. I love the block you came up with. It uses your Liberty fabrics and you don't have to cut them down. They look great!

  5. had to laugh at "hoarding" it away - my girls sometimes think of me that way I think - they wonder why I have so much fabric in here and when I show them a fabric that is 20 years old they tend to start to wonder about me I think LOL - hoarding NO - I just know it will come in handy one day being the perfect find

  6. I absolutely adore Liberty so I love that you didn't have to cut them very small! You've come up with a great variation. Looking forward to seeing the completed flimsy!

  13. That's the perfect block and overall design for using your Liberty prints. Your use and positioning of the white/ivory and pale gray (are they solids?) are a great contrast for those prints. There's nice depth happening. I sure wish you lived nearby because I'd give you a bundle of Liberty prints I won in an Instagram giveaway. I've had them for nearly three years, and just don't care for them. I hope you have a wonderful get-away. Don't feel obligated to stitch anything. All your projects will still be waiting for you when you return.

  14. You’re not a true quilter if you don’t hoard fabric just a little bit. Pretty fabric, soft fabric here’s my credit card. Beautiful design you’ve done. Think I’ll try this with my hoarded Fassett.
