My Super Scrappy Churn Dash quilt is finished.
A few months back, I was on a zoom chat with the Chookshed Stitchers and the idea was put forward that we all make a churn dash project. The time line was long and relaxed and we could make anything we wanted so long as it was all about the churn dash block.
Chookyblue kept us on the straight and narrow, sending out email reminders to keep at it and get our projects progressing and/or finished.
I was hesitant at first. I have made a lot of churn dash projects in the past and wasn't really looking to make another one as I had so many other projects I wanted to work on. But honestly, resistance was futile. I decided that I'd go super scrappy.
All of the churn dash blocks were made from pieces in my scrap tubs... which is why they have a whole heap of different fabrics in each block. I made the little churn dash blocks to add a little bit of interest, but also because I had a lot of smaller pieces of fabric that could be used in making them.
I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. I love bright scrappy quilts, and this is certainly that. It's not a huge quilt and I could have kept making blocks to make it bigger, but I know that it would probably have just sat around as a UFO if I didn't put it together and just finish it.
After putting all of the blocks together earlier in the week and finding the perfect piece of fabric for the backing (and older IKEA print), I was ready for that one final push. Yesterday, I basted, quilted it and added the binding by machine.
This morning, I had a photo shoot. My furry friends decided that they'd like to join in and help. Oh they're so (not) helpful!
Do your furry friends like to join you to "help" take quilt photos too?

ReplyDeleteIts lovely and bright! Churn dash is such a nice block.
ReplyDeleteIt’s love at first sight!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is so bright and happy! The only furry animals we had on the farm were the cows, cats and squirrels! I wouldn't have appreciated any of them on my quilts. Happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteLovely and bright quilt and I like those smaller blocks to add extra interest. Furry friends do make delightful photo-bombers!
ReplyDeletelove love love it! so colorful!
ReplyDeleteAren't you glad you joined in. It turned out so well. The boys were behaving very well while sitting for their photos.
ReplyDeleteLove the scrappy happy churndash. I would love to make one. All the fabrics sing along in chorus. My cat seems to know whenever I put a newly quilted quilt on the floor to pick bindings. By the time I get the camera, he is sprawled out on it.
ReplyDeleteI always love the look of a bright, happy, scrappy quilt, and combined with one of my favorite blocks - the Churn Dash block - it's a winning combination. I'm glad you didn't resist, and joined in the along. Your quilt turned out beautiful. Yay you!
