It's been at least 3-4 years in the making and it's taken over a week to put this quilt top together (COVID has really knocked me about), but I can now say a great big YAY!
I love how this is turning out. It's bright and happy and scrappy and makes me smile. I started making these scrap hexies a number of years ago - they were leftovers from making the Kingfisher Quilt.
I decided to prepare more scrap hexies and refill my Twinings tin. This became my go-to project. It travelled with us to the US and Mexico on holiday back in 2019 and I think it may have even gone with us to Europe in 2018. We drove right across the south of England and I do remember having my hand sewing during that adventure.
The hexies have kept me company while I've waited for children in the car, while watching television in the evening or generally when I've been in between projects and needing something to keep my hands busy.
I've put the top together and it fits my daughters double bed. I'm going to add some borders to make it that little bit bigger and a more perfect bed size.
I was thinking a thin white print border and then a wider black/white print outer border. Someone on instagram suggested appliqueing some vines and flowers to an outer border - I'm not sure if I'll do that. I'm at the almost finished stage and I'm excited to tick it off my WIP pile.
Gorgeous hexie quilt. Love it.
ReplyDeletean applique border would be a nice addition - but not necessary especially if you want it in the finished column now!
ReplyDeleteI do love a hexie and this is gorgeous. The addition of the giant flowers is perfect. xx
ReplyDeleteThis has come together so well. The scrappy hexies are a delight. And it sounds like there are many memories in this quilt top, too. Beautiful work.

ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely quilt! An applique border would be very pretty but sometimes you've just got to say finished!
