I finally got to some actual sewing - I worked on a couple of custom name cushion orders and have them prepared, quilted and now just need the actual names appliqued on to the fronts.
It had been a while since I'd worked on a kantha-style project. I just love working the slow rhythmic stitches and I'd been thinking about making one of these types of projects for ages.
I have a tub with Japanese Lawn in teeny tiny florals. I've worked with them in the past and like to keep the decent size scraps. I created a panel of teeny lawn florals and sandwiched it with some batting and was all set for some evening stitching.
The proper way to sew the kantha projects is to add and layer the fabric as you go, sewing them down with big stitches. I call mine kantha-style because I like adding lots of rows of big stitches in thick cotton thread (in this case, it's aurifil 12 weight cotton), but I also like to mark lines - sometimes with heat removable ink but mainly with a hera marker.
Anyways, here's how much I got finished last night while I binge-watched "Alone" on SBS on Demand. I've seen season one and started season two yesterday. My husband says that I'll watch just about anything, but I do draw the line and horror movies and medical procedure shows.
I joined Wendy of Sugar Lane Designs and the crew for Friday Night Sew In (FNSI) as it was the 3rd Friday of the month. Can you believe how quickly this year is speeding by?
Rather than telling me what shows you like, what shows don't you like?
It is a real treat to have the house to yourself with no interruptions. You certainly made the most of the precious time. Good progress on your FNSI project.
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen :)
DeleteLoving the fabrics in your projects! I seem to watch anything but not if the series goes on forever!
ReplyDeleteThanks Rosie. I am a sucker for little floral prints :)

Oh how lovely to spend so much time alone sewing :) Your projects are so pretty... I'm with Fiona, not into horror or reality shows! xx
ReplyDeleteLove your hand stitched project and the fabrics are so pretty.
ReplyDeletegreat projects. very talented results. thank you
ReplyDeleteno reality shows.
Loving your Kantha project, very pretty in lawn.
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda. I love working with the lawn. It's almost as nice as Liberty (but a fraction of the price).
DeleteThe fabrics and stitching are beautiful! <3 Pat
ReplyDeleteThanks Pat :)
DeleteYour Kantha pretty is lovely with all those Japanese lawns and big stitching. Why I see a few lawns that I have in my stash. Those cushion covers are lovely, too.
ReplyDeleteI do love the teeny tiny little floral prints. These lawn fabrics are lovely to use and not super expensive :)
DeleteWhat a lovely project! Now I'm going to have to make one myself. I love hand quilting, and your project is perfect. Shows I won't watch -- horror, medical procedures, reality (YUK!), the Olympics (it's no longer fair competing for all & China & other countries with no human rights), most every sport. Favorites are those on Netflix and Acorn -- lovely to watch programs from other countries. You have a lovely blog...thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and for your lovely comment :)
DeleteVery pretty.
ReplyDeleteAnd I *really* don't like "reality" shows. How can people think that is real? It may not be scripted, but they are 100% not "stranded" on an island...do people really think that the camera people, director, "host" are also stranded with no access to water/food/warm? SMH. LOL.
Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for stopping by :)
DeleteIts always good to have TV - or company- for that sort of project - which looks great.
ReplyDeleteI don't watch horror, westerns, sci fi, action movies or sub titled movies - because I want to sew . . . - I dont mind the medical shows, Absolutely HATE reality TV
haha so I'm guessing you're not a Married at First Sight fan then :)
DeleteI've since seen a picture of your finished Kantha cushion - it's beautiful! How lovely that you had the house to yourself for a time - I find it's a nice sense of freedom when that happens:-) Shows I definitely don't like/watch are horror and sci-fi!
ReplyDeleteThank you and yes add Sci-Fi to my list of dislikes too.

Your Japanese lawn fabrics are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI don't like reality shows (assuming this category doesn't include Bake-Off and Sewing Bee) and I rarely enjoy comedies, especially more recent ones.
