It's the third Friday of the month which means it's Friday Night Sew In (FNSI) with Wendy of Sugarlane Designs.
I'm working on my project for the Polar Bear Plunge blog hop with Moosestash Quilting next week. It looks to be another fun blog hop, hosted by Joan.
The directive for this hop was something to do with bears, blue or cold. I went down the blue direction with an improv piece.
As you're probably already aware, I do love hand stitching, so I've spent a little bit of time today (and will again tonight after I press that "publish" button) and big hand quilting stitches between the machine quilted lines.
I'm using Aurifil 12wt cotton thread which gives really nice definition and texture to the project but isn't so thick (like a traditional perle 8 cotton) that it's tricky to thread the needle in the evening. Fellow glasses wearers - you'd know what I mean.
Pop over to Sugarlane Designs to see what everyone has been working on.
In other news, Charlie had his first visit to the groomers today and he was not a happy boy when he came home. I was reading about it and apparently dogs can come home from the groomers embarrassed after having their fur cut. Poor Charlie! If nothing else, he'll be much cooler through these warm summer days without his big fluffy coat.
I like to use #12 thread also - your stitches are much smaller than mine -good work on your circles
ReplyDeleteIt's a lovely weight, isn't it? I go through phases with my hand stitches. When I combine machine quilting with hand quilting, I tend towards smaller hand stitches with slightly more space between them. Adding these final hand stitches is just a really lovely, slow process :)
DeleteLooking forward to seeing the completed item. Poor Charlie. Looks like he needs a big hug.
ReplyDeleteHe's a little bit happier this morning. Maybe going to the groomers just made him lose out on his napping time.
DeletePoor Charlie at least they didn't put a bow in his hair! I can't wait to see your blue piece
ReplyDeleteI was hoping he'd come home with a bow or a bandanna ... I'll just have to make him one ;-)
Deletewe had a chat and he will wear a bandanna so long as it's masculine but definately no bow
ReplyDeleteLove the lovely Blues you'er working with.
ReplyDeleteCharlie will like being cooler without his mop of hair....
Awwww, Charlie. What a pretty pup
ReplyDeleteI love your hand sewing. Lovely
Oh good for you. I wanted to do the Polar Bear Plunge, but I decided to spend more time on the Tickled Pink project instead. I look forward to seeing your finish.
ReplyDeleteoh poor puppy - guess he will get used to it!
