Christmas Gifting

I have a group of girlfriends which I love to hang out with. We have kids of similar ages and when our children were younger, we'd all get together and have a lot of regular family outings.

The kids are growing up, so with all of their friends and jobs plus various weekend commitments, we don't get together as much as we used to. Every so often, us four mums try to catch up for a hurried coffee catch up which is always fun. Chatting online in group chats is fine, but catching up in real life is way better.

Today, we've calibrate our calendars and are getting together to make gingerbread houses together. We each bought our own kits and will gather at one of our houses to assemble them together.

I always like to bring a little Christmas gift for my girlfriends. They're a group of women who though I don't speak with everyday, I know that I can rely on if I needed them. Last year I made them each a table runner. This year, time wasn't on my side, so I came up with something different - yet still handmade.

I went out and bought some tall latte mugs - the type without handles. I wanted to personalise the mugs using the cricut so searched online and found lots of wonderful 'coffee related' projects to recreate.

I decided to make all three mugs different and love how each one turned out.

With the curve of the cups, it's a little tricky to show the the words properly, but here's what they say.

Better LATTE than never

Coffee Before Reality

Caffeinate and Conquer

Fun, right? I bought a few boxes of those flavoured coffee sachets to include in the gift. To finish, I covered the mugs with some clear plastic cellophane and a bit of curling ribbon and they're all set to gift.

I do love working with the cricut and spent an enjoyable afternoon figuring how it works, searching for projects and recreating them in my own way.

In other Cricut news, I'd shown my sister the cup I'd made for my son's IT Teacher. One of the accountants from her work was leaving in the new year so she wanted to get him something.

She sent me a picture of a fun mug which says "Calc You Later" and asked if I could make something like it for her. We make our own lettering and created this for him.

She's going to fill it with the coffee flavoured lollies to gift him.

So much fun!

    1. I love these little coffee sachets. The coffee isn't very strong (I like it strong), but they're so portable for work or gatherings (like quilt groups). All you need is hot water.

  3. These are such fun! You could keep making lots of variations on a theme for a very long time! I wonder what sort of sayings revolve around tea drinking…..”keep calm and drink tea”, “but tea first”, “have a cup of positivitea “! 😁

    1. There would be lots of fun tea sayings too. I made made this one for my son's IT teacher at school. He's a big fan of tea and Sam says he's always got a mug of tea on the go.

    1. It really is great to catch up with them. We used to be able to do it often, but it's trickier now as the kids get older (but not quite old enough to have their own drivers licenses).

  6. It looks like you're using your Cricut to it's best advantage! Such great ideas, and cute sayings. I think you've come up with the perfect gift that your friends will enjoy. Isn't it nice to have friends with "longevity"? They're the sort that will be there when you need them to be, even if you don't regularly stay in close contact. I had friends like that - left behind when we moved cross-country. It's not quite as easy to make friends when you no longer have kids around to give you commonality, so cherish these women. You're certainly a good friend TO them!

    1. Thanks Linda. It really is lovely to have these women in my life. We met when our kids were in the same kindergarten class and now the kids are moving onto their final senior years of highschool. The kids don't necessarily hang-out with each other or have any of the same interests, but we (the mums) do.

    1. It was a lot of fun putting our gingerbread houses together... although it was quite a warm afternoon so the icing wasn't setting well. We ended up with some funny lopsided houses.

    1. Thanks Wendy. I think they all loved the gifts. It was a lucky dip as to who got which mug, but funnily enough, the friend who is often late ended up with the "Better Latte than Never" mug :)
