Good morning and welcome to my stop on the Fairy Tale Blog Hop which is hosted by Joan of MooseStash Quilting. The theme of this hop is about fairy tales and Joan asked us to share what our fairy tale would be.
I put my thinking cap on and decided on Mary Poppins. A magical woman who wafts about with her umbrella, wrangles the children and keeps the house looking spick and span.
I wanted to create a little an A5 quilted notebook cover with a stitchery on the front. There are tonnes of great quotes in the Mary Poppins story so choosing one was tricky. In the end I saw this design on the internet and decided to go with it.
The book cover background was put together with low volume scraps, then quilted with some organic type lines and trimmed to size. I then transferred the umbrella design to fabric, fused some parlan to the back and embroidered it with some warm brown floss. Once it was complete, I cut around the umbrella design approximately 1/8" outside my stitching.
I placed it on an angle atop the quilty background and machine appliqued it with neutral coloured thread, right up beside the handwork.
The cover was finished off with a couple of sleeves on the inside to hold down the A5 notebook cover and bound with some old Tilda fabric which I had in my stash.
I do love how this turned out and really love the sentiment on the cover. I'll add this project to my gift box.

That's supercalifragilistically superb! I love Mary Poppins. The Museum of Pop Culture here in Seattle is currently running an exhibit that shows both the coat and umbrella from the original Mary Poppins and then the recent remake of Mary Poppins with Emily Blunt. It was fun to see them in person and compare them. Your book cover is beautiful! -Andrea
