It's the 2nd of May 2021. It feels like it was only just Christmas and here we are at almost the middle of the year. Why does it feel like time just flies, the older we get?
I thought I'd stop in with a little bit of a catch up post today as I have a few things in the works, which I can't share just yet, but I also have a few other bits and pieces I'm playing around with, which I can share.
Firstly, I received a custom cushion request from a lady who has ordered a lot of cushions in the past, for her daughters and friends. I'm so pleased that she likes the name pillows that I make. I've made up the patchwork panel which goes on the bottom and I just need to go to my google docs to create the name which I'll them applique.
One of my favourite parts when making these patchwork cushions, is choosing the squares. I have a big tub of random 2.5" squares that I keep adding to. I like to choose a variety of girlie prints and colours when I make these cushions.

My Berry Pie crochet blanket is coming along nicely. It's my evening project and I enjoy crocheting a couple of rows each evening. My daughter has me hooked on watching Riverdale with her on Netflix, so it's become our evening entertainment lately.
It's becoming a really nice size and covers my legs, lap and half way to my neck really well when I'm sitting down, but I want to make this blanket big enough to snuggle with for a nap, so I'll keep going until I run out of yarn.
It has been a slowwwww reading month for me. I have only finished one book in the last few weeks (and that was an audio book).
Book 11/26 in my 2021 reading challenge was The Secret of Cold Hill by Peter James. This is the follow-up to The House on Cold Hill which I read last month.
Cold Hill House has been demolished to make way for a new housing estate. Luxury-living at its best with high specification gadgets all thrown in – part-exchange available for the right buyers.
The first two families move in, and as soon as they do, the unearthly residents of Cold Hill begin to make themselves known.
Nobody who moves into Cold Hill reaches their fortieth birthday, and the old couple that have just arrived . . . let’s just say their days are numbered.
Have you heard that the new colour for May in the Rainbow Scrap Challenge is red? Oh I've been looking forward to this one. I have lots of red scraps and am ready to make a start on my scrappy quarter log cabin blocks and my scrappy hexie flower blocks. Finishing all of my red blocks for RSC21 is my challenge for OMG hosted by Elm Street Quilts. Oh and getting this custom patchwork cushion finished too.
Okay, I can hear my washing machine has almost finished it's cycle so it's time to get it all out on the clothesline. I read an article recently by an American living in Australia who listed one of the strangest things she encountered living here was that we hang out our washing, rather than use the dryer. So tell me my American friends, to you solely use your clothes dryer to dry your laundry or do you have and use a clothesline out back like us Aussies?
Loooove your crocheted blanket. It will be snug for winter. I am a bit 'hooked' on making crochet blankets. Pretty colours for the cushion. Looks like a good read there.

DeleteSuch a pretty blanket you are making and I always admire your pillows. I am Canadian and we do not have a clothes line outside but we do have a long rod in the basement where we hang wet clothes to dry. I use the dryer for sheets and towels only.

DeleteAnother difference between our two countries... our houses don't generally have basements (unless they're underground car parks for apartments in the city). Hope you have a lovely week :)
What a pretty blanket. I alway find it odd when people don't hang out their washing when the weather is lovely, in England most people would daily hang their washing outside when possible. x

DeleteI adore the scrappy prints of the cushion (pillow!) you're making. It's no surprise that this particular woman keeps ordering them from you. Your Berry Pie crochet is coming along beautifully, and I had to smile at the bag you're using to store yarn leftovers, as I have the same bag from ordering yard for my Moorland afghan. Also, thanks for the Netflix suggestion. I'll look into it. And the books too... I'm not familiar with them. As for hanging out laundry... Ergh. That's a testy topic. Though when we lived in Iowa I could not hang out laundry year-'round because of the extremely cold winter temperatures, as much as I could, I used my umbrella clothesline (I put it away in between uses). That clothesline was also a great place to hang a quilt for photographing! Then, we moved to Florida. It turns out that, in fact, Florida is one of only 19 US states that LEGALLY protect a person's right to hang outdoors. However, because we live in a senior community where deed restrictions are imposed, I am unable to hang clothes outdoors. Of all places where clothes could be hung outdoors year 'round - Florida, the sunshine state. Oh, it's so frustrating. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good show on Netflix and we finished the first season last night with lots happening in that last episode. I told Amelia that we'd have to wait until next weekend to start the next season (much to her dismay). The characters seem to be named and based on the old Archie comics characters.
DeleteFlorida would certainly be excellent drying weather. I didn't know that there were laws about hanging washing outdoors and find it so strange that only 19 states allow it.

Thanks so much! I've only just discovered there are rules/laws about hanging out laundry in the US. Our electricity is really quite expensive here in Australia, so that may have something to do with it too.

ReplyDeleteThank you! I read somewhere that that 'sunshiney smell' we get when we line dry our sheets is because they're like a great big net collecting all of the pollen in the air. Makes me want to sneeze just thinking about it.

ReplyDeleteYes, time does fly. Why is that? I have started making lists of things to accomplish every day, otherwise that "time thing" just slips past me and there I am standing with nothing to show. (that is a personal cross I bear, the goal obsession)
This book looks horrrrrrible. I am glad you liked it. My hubbs watches stuff like this every PM on some app or another netflix or Hulu or other. Always something crazy weird or criminal. I am in my sewing room but I see the tv if needed (or something I avoid looking ["come over and look at this decomposed body."] just NO)
I will check out Riverdale...

ReplyDeleteYour cushions look great and you are making great progress on your crochet. I always use the dryer. I saw some towels hanging on a fence last week, and it is very rare to see clothes drying outside in the city.
