Born to be Wild: Monstera Coasters

Good morning and welcome to my stop on the 'Born to be Wild' blog hop. This hop, hosted by Carol of Just Let Me Quilt is themed around the jungle. It could be wild jungle animals or using print fabrics to represent the wild.

I had a think about it and decided that I'd go with the jungle theme, but the flora, rather than the fauna. With the idea of using a monstera leaf in my design, I used my monstera deliciosa plant (one of my in my house) as my muse. Isn't she a pretty one?

I drew up some of the leaves on the back of applique paper and pressed them to some solid green fabric. Once I'd machine appliqued the leaves onto some cream linen fabric, I used my Crafters Edge Crossover II to cut them into circular shapes along with the green print backing fabric in the same size.

For the fusible batting in the centre, I chose the smaller size circle in the Crafters Edge set which worked out perfectly. With the fabric right sides together, I used the edge of the batting as my sewing guide, before turning them out and hand sewing the coasters closed.

So there we have it, my monstera coasters, all ready to protect my table from cup rings. Be sure to visit these other creative people who are also participating in the Born to be Wild blog hop.
