More is more, right?
I put together a patchworky rainbowy panel with the crumb blocks I was playing with the other day. You can read about it here.
Then I machine quilted it with some very organic lines. Some are a little bit arced and wobbly, while some cross over each other. Organic. Not content with it just yet, I decided to add some hand stitching to the piece too.
I decided on a variegated neutral Aurifil thread in grey tones called Silver Moon (which is currently on sale at the Fat Quarter Shop).
Aurifil 12 wt is nice to work with, though sometimes it needs some extra 'oomph' to show through (especially with the riot of colour and pattern going on here), so I doubled up the thread. I was going to hand stitch in only some of the spaces within the quilting lines, but I enjoy the hand stitching process so much that I'm probably adding more than I'd initially thought I would.
I'm still not completely sure what I'll be making with this patchwork panel... all I know is that I saved this little rainbow from being landfill.
I love that thread and I'm using it on the quilt I am hand quilting right now too - good idea on double it up I will need to remember that for another time
ReplyDeleteanother clever idea....

It's really fun for me to see quilters using the smallest scraps to "make fabric." I love where this is headed. Maybe the finish can be turned into a large tote? Might I also mention... there's an online shop with lower Aurifil thread prices than the FQS. I often buy from Pumpkin Vine Corner in Georgia (US). Fantastic prices, though they have 12-weight only on small spools. Don't know for sure if they ship to Aus, but it might be worth checking into. Keep up the beautiful makes! I always enjoy seeing what you're working on.
ReplyDeleteI am challenging myself to use my scraps this year. This little project you have made is a lovely showcase for your scraps and your quilting by machine and by hand,
ReplyDeleteIt never ceases to amaze me what comes out of scraps...looking forward to seeing the final result.
ReplyDeleteI am loving this.....thanks for sharing !
ReplyDeleteLovely! I'm always on the lookout for ways to use up those precious scraps and making crumb blocks is a great way to go. And I do love how you've combined both machine & hand quilting, lots more interest!
