I've been creating scrappy hexies for a while now. They're such an easy craft and totally portable. I make hexie flowers in the car, on airplanes (remember travelling?), on cruise ships... or just sitting on the couch watching telly.
I started on this crazy scrappy hexagon ride back when I made my version of the Kingfisher Quilt. It's still one of my most favourite quilts.

And then, because I still enjoyed making them so much, I kept making them. I have a pile of prepared (glue basted) hexagons in all different colours along with all the extra bits which I use to sew up my hexagon flowers, living in a gorgeous Twinnings tea tin. When I have a few made up, I transfer them to a ziplock bag in my UFO cupboard.
I honestly didn't have a plan for my hexagons, so I decided to join everyone with the RSC2021 challenge. I've watched the gorgeous projects everyone has made with the colour challenges each month, over the past years and think this is my year to join.
It's pink month and I have a fair few scrappy pink hexagon flowers ready to applique. I decided that I'll applique them to monochromatic backgrounds, which should make the colours "POP".
I know that for some months, I only have limited number of hexagon flowers made, so can concentrate on making them as well as appliqueing them. By the end of the year, I'll have a lovely colourful hexie quilt. Well, that's the plan ;-)

Happy belated Birthday 🥳.. pleased you had a fun day..
ReplyDeleteLovely kingfisher quilt and you’ve got a gorgeous pile of hexes..
They will make a great RCS quilt.....
Hi Maria, thank you! It was a great, very relaxed day. I love the Kingfisher quilt and as soon as I saw it on Instagram, I had to join in the fun making one too.
DeleteHappy Birthday Anorina! Wishing you a blessed 'new year' :)! Love your hexies - and looking forward to seeing them in a new quilt when ready.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. Here's to a better 2021 for all of us.
DeleteI'm a sucker for scrappy hexies so once I use up these, I'll probably end up making more LOL
What a beautiful pile of hexie loveliness. Happy birthday btw! Enjoy your day.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much :)
DeleteLovely to hear of your Happy Birthday outing. Love all your hexies, such pretty fabrics.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. Scrappy hexies are my favourites :)
DeleteHappy Birthday! that sounds like a wonderful day - and the beach was amazing!! love the hexies - your Kingfisher quilt is amazing!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Yes it was a really good day and all over too soon. I told the kids that it should be my birthday week, not just a day, and they have to do all of the jobs around here... they weren't keen *LOL*
DeleteLove the way you are using your hexagons. Kingfisher is so nice. Your photography makes me long for a beach trip. One of these days.
ReplyDeleteKingfisher was one of my favourite quilts to make... which is why, I guess, I had to keep making more scrappy hexie flowers. Hope you get to the beach very soon! Do you live far from the coast?
DeleteHappy birthday, Anorina! That beach looks like paradise -- and your hexies are pretty spectacular, too!
ReplyDeleteThanks Rebecca. It was a lovely, very relaxed day with my little family. I love the beach and honestly don't make time to go often enough. Enjoy the rest of your day :)
DeleteWonderful pink hexie flowers! Hey...I have some of that 30’s bunny print in my stash too!
ReplyDeleteYay, thank you! I think I have some of that print left in a soft pastel yellow too. I'll save that one for yellow month. Hope you're having a lovely day :)
DeleteHappy belated birthday1
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea for an RSC project.
I had to laugh when I saw you mention a UFO cupboard and that has me wondering the size of your cupboard.
Oh, and I do so miss the beach. In the 70s we lived within walking distance of a beach. Those were the days!
Thank you Cathy. It was a really nice day.
DeleteLOL my UFO cupboard has quite a bit in it. Mostly it's the longer term projects that are meant to take a lot of 'slow sewing' but which I often run out of patience (or forget what I'm up to). Also, a lot of partially completed embroidery blocks.
It's nice living on the coast and I don't take as much advantage of the beach as I probably could, especially as it's mid summer here. Hubby wants to go beach fishing one evening later this week, so I may just have to go with him.
Hope you're having a nice day :)
Happy belated birthday wishes. That water looks devine and a pretty stack of hexies there.
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen. It was a nice day and all over too soon. I told the kids it's my birthday week and that they're at my beck and call. Hmmmm... we'll see how that goes. Enjoy your Tuesday :)
DeleteI haven't committed to anyone in a long time. But I had to yours. I love hexies ❤️ My quilt room is packed up for moving. I'm going to rummage through to find some charm squares and start making them😊. I absolutely just love the colors you picked.
ReplyDeleteJust made me happy to see this today Blessed Happy Birthday!!!!!
Happy Birthday! It looks like you have the beach to yourselves too. Can't beat that! Your hexies make a great RSC project. I like the flowers made out of different fabrics of the same color.
ReplyDeleteBelated birthday greetings to you. This is such a happy post. Thank you for the visuals.
ReplyDeleteBelated birthday wishes to you! I too love the sand between my toes. My favorite place for the sand was on the Gulf Coast of FL. The sand there was so white & fine. Anyways, love your hexies and you will absolutely have the most beautiful quilt by the end of the year!
