Pink - RSC21

Firstly, happy birthday to me! I've had a really lovely day with my loves. We went to discover a new (to us) beach which was so nice. It's a quiet beach that I never knew about even though I've lived in the area my whole life.

We made our way down to the sand and walked the way around to the end and back. There's something special about feeling sand between your toes, don't you think?

We then had takeaway lunch in a picnic hut by the lake before coming home for a swim and a great big tiramisu as my birthday cake. YUM!

I've been creating scrappy hexies for a while now. They're such an easy craft and totally portable. I make hexie flowers in the car, on airplanes (remember travelling?), on cruise ships... or just sitting on the couch watching telly.

I started on this crazy scrappy hexagon ride back when I made my version of the Kingfisher Quilt. It's still one of my most favourite quilts.

And then, because I still enjoyed making them so much, I kept making them. I have a pile of prepared (glue basted) hexagons in all different colours along with all the extra bits which I use to sew up my hexagon flowers, living in a gorgeous Twinnings tea tin. When I have a few made up, I transfer them to a ziplock bag in my UFO cupboard.

I honestly didn't have a plan for my hexagons, so I decided to join everyone with the RSC2021 challenge. I've watched the gorgeous projects everyone has made with the colour challenges each month, over the past years and think this is my year to join.

It's pink month and I have a fair few scrappy pink hexagon flowers ready to applique. I decided that I'll applique them to monochromatic backgrounds, which should make the colours "POP".

I know that for some months, I only have limited number of hexagon flowers made, so can concentrate on making them as well as appliqueing them. By the end of the year, I'll have a lovely colourful hexie quilt. Well, that's the plan ;-)

I'm a sucker for scrappy hexies so once I use up these, I'll probably end up making more LOL

    1. Thank you. Yes it was a really good day and all over too soon. I told the kids that it should be my birthday week, not just a day, and they have to do all of the jobs around here... they weren't keen *LOL*

    1. Kingfisher was one of my favourite quilts to make... which is why, I guess, I had to keep making more scrappy hexie flowers. Hope you get to the beach very soon! Do you live far from the coast?

    1. Yay, thank you! I think I have some of that print left in a soft pastel yellow too. I'll save that one for yellow month. Hope you're having a lovely day :)

  9. Happy belated birthday1
What a wonderful idea for an RSC project.
I had to laugh when I saw you mention a UFO cupboard and that has me wondering the size of your cupboard.
Oh, and I do so miss the beach. In the 70s we lived within walking distance of a beach. Those were the days!

    1. Thank you Cathy. It was a really nice day.
LOL my UFO cupboard has quite a bit in it. Mostly it's the longer term projects that are meant to take a lot of 'slow sewing' but which I often run out of patience (or forget what I'm up to). Also, a lot of partially completed embroidery blocks.
It's nice living on the coast and I don't take as much advantage of the beach as I probably could, especially as it's mid summer here. Hubby wants to go beach fishing one evening later this week, so I may just have to go with him.
      Hope you're having a nice day :)

  14. Belated birthday wishes to you! I too love the sand between my toes. My favorite place for the sand was on the Gulf Coast of FL. The sand there was so white & fine. Anyways, love your hexies and you will absolutely have the most beautiful quilt by the end of the year!
