Hello and happy Sunday. It's still only the middle of November but we spent our morning putting up the Christmas tree and decorating our home for the coming holiday season. This year hasn't been normal, so why stick to the first of December tradition when we could decorate our home earlier?
We have bought a few Christmas trees over the years and this year were determined to put up our big 2m tall traditional green tree in the living room. But then we discovered that our colourful lights weren't working properly and the set that did work well had white cable (which really didn't work well on the dark green branches). White lights didn't really work either, so we pulled the green tree apart, put it back in the box and put up the pink tree.
Oh how I love my pink Christmas tree. It's just so happy, unexpected and I feel like it makes the whole room glow pink.
And with the decorations all coming out, I thought I'd share my new Holiday Braid Table Runner. The pattern I used is my free Red Braid Table Runner and I went through my novelty prints to see what I had in my stash. I stuck with minty greens, golds and greys for the strips and red prints for the central blocks.
I quilted in the ditch and then used DMC Perle 8 cotton thread to hand quilt extra lines in the strips which give it a lovely dimply effect.

I LOVE your pink tree. It is beautiful and very happy. I think here in the United States a lot of people are also decorating early.

DeletePeople are DEFINITELY decorating earlier than usual this year! I can't get into that myself, but then I don't have a fluffy pink tree to put up! We've never had an artificial Christmas tree... I can't seem get into them. Enjoy all your "merry."

DeleteOne day, I'd love a real tree to decorate. In Australia, it's quite a rarity to have a real tree for Christmas. There are Christmas tree farms where you can go and cut one down yourself, but I'm not sure we have the best climate here for growing them, or keeping them alive for very long once cut.
Love that tree. It is so bright and cheery. Your tablerunner is lovely too. I am a new follower so was excited to go back to your tutorial to see how it was done. The original red braid pattern was pretty too. What a fun way to use up bits and pieces of fabrics that we manage to collect!

DeleteLove your table runner, Anorina! I dug through my own stash a couple days ago looking for novelty prints and was disappointed that I have far fewer of these fabrics than I remembered. And the LQS didn't have much of anything either. I think people are buying up holiday novelty prints faster than normal this year to make holiday print masks. Now I'm kicking myself for all the times I walked past a fun Christmas print without buying it in the past!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, you're right! I forgot about people making holiday fabric masks. I still haven't been to see what fabrics they have at my local. Fingers crossed they haven't sold out. Hopefully you find some to sew with too.

Hi Maria, thanks for stopping by. My tree makes me smile, though I'm not sure hubby loves it as much as I do. Yes it's great for Christmas scraps. Spotlight have a sale so I might need to get in there to see what novelty prints they have. Happy stitching :)
