Well, this week, I dug out the blocks that I'd made and thought it might be a good idea to start sewing some rows together. I have all of the dates written on the back of each block, so I started lining them up on my sewing table.
As I was playing around with the blocks, I started thinking how lovely each orange peel (leaf) shape would look with some extra big-stitches through it. Rather than wait until the quilting stage, it would be much easier to stitch them when they're small and easier to handle.
A couple of rows are now big-stitched and sewn together and I and so pleased that the urge to work on this quilt has returned.
What is it going on with everyone's lack of sewing mojo lately?!? Seems there have been many of us in this same boat.

I do like the idea of doing the stitching earlier in the process, sometimes manhandling a whole quilt while you hand stitch can be a bit much. I made a quick baby quilt last week, very simple but satisfying to finish something. x
ReplyDeleteA quick finish is a good finish :)
DeleteI love how this is coming together.... the big stitches are the perfect addition...

Thanks Fiona. I'm pleased with how it's coming along - especially now that I've sewn a few rows together and can see some progress.
DeleteOh gosh! Your daily blocks are pretty to begin with, but those extra hand stitches make them absolutely smashing! Such a small thing to add, but it makes a huge impact. I'm happy for you to have renewed enthusiasm for this project... and you should! It's definitely worth seeing to a finish. No sew-jo lost here, thank goodness. Just made a huge investment in more solids and am ready to practice the improv I learned from Maria Shell's workshop. I'm jonesing to get started!
ReplyDeleteIt's always so inspiring to stop by and visit your blog or IG to see what lovely things you are working on. You keep the rest of us (with lost sew-jo) going :)
DeleteLooking forward to seeing your new improv work.
I adore the big stitch detailing you've added! Stroke of brilliance. Glad your sewjo has returned. I think the "mehs" are coming and going for all of us. If you wake up one day feeling energized and inspired, you have to just seize the day and sew something because you never know how you'll feel tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteYes, I completely agree with your on that. Just take each day as it comes and make the most of it. Happy Stitching :)
DeleteWell, the colors are fantastic and so joyful.
ReplyDeleteI have been sewing many projects and that keeps me busy.
Thanks Rosemary. I think that bright and happy colours always make everything better. Happy sewing my friend :)
DeleteThis project is inspiring. I’ve been following it from the beginning, so I’m really pleased to see it again. It is the nicest temperature quilt I’ve ever seen.
ReplyDeleteWow, thanks so much for your lovely comment. I don't know who first thought of making a temperature quilt, but gosh it's such a fun idea.
DeleteHave a lovely, stitchy day :)
Wonderful to have your sewjo back, the big stitches look really good.
ReplyDeleteThank you! A little bit of sewing each day, inspires more sewing.
DeleteHave a lovely weekend x
I love the colours you are using...& I agree, those stitches through the centre look great...xox
ReplyDeleteThanks Cheryll. This is certainly going to be a very bright and rainbowy kind of quilt. I do look forward to seeing the progression from our warm start to the year to the cooler middle colours and then back out to the warm.
DeleteHave a lovely weekend :)
Those are so pretty! There is always a project that comes along that we get super stoked about...until the enthusiasm disappears! Which is fine. The best part (IMO) is when I get back to it and get excited all over again. I can't wait to see what this temperature quilt is going to look like. You picked a design/pattern I've not seen as a temperature quilt before!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your lovely comment Jayne. I'm certainly looking forward to seeing it grow (and not fall too far behind). It'll be 2021 before we know it.
DeleteHave a lovely weekend :)
Your temp quilt is going to be SEW cheerful when it's done. LOVE it!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! It'll certainly be a colourful rainbowy type of quilt.
DeleteHave a lovely day x
Oh, you MUST continue on with this one. It is one of the best temperature quilts I've seen and if I was going to make one it would be inspired by yours for sure. And those big stitches add a spark of fun.
ReplyDeleteI am thankful I have not lost my sewing mojo! And fingers crossed I never do!
Thanks so much for your lovely comment Cathy. I’m enjoying it again which is good.
DeleteHave a lovely weekend :)
i am so glad you dug it back out - it is so bright and happy. those big stitches make such a difference in the blocks - great idea!
