Gossip in the Garden - Part 4 (Progress)

What started as a few overcast and gloomy days late last week turned into a wet and wild Saturday night right through Sunday.

This type of weather meant that nobody in the house wanted to go out, which then meant that I got to spend some time in my sewing room. Yay!

I looked at my sewing table with different piles of projects in various stages of completion. Urgh I really needed to tidy up my sewing space... but if I did that, I'd run out of sewing time before I had to get dinner started. I decided to leave the mess and pick up the nearest project and do a little bit of work on that one.

Gossip in the Garden was the one I picked up. It's a big pattern with lots of "parts" so I had to go back and see what I was up to. Part 4 is made up of this block (top photo), a bunch of periwinkle blocks which will go around the large central block (which you can see here) and another cute little applique block.

This block is quite simple and easy to make and I really enjoyed digging through my scrap tub for a piece suitable for the teapot. After machine appliqueing the pieces, I thought I'd make a start on the periwinkle blocks. Boy these are fiddle-y! I cut out the paper templates and glued them to some cardboard (thank you old cereal box in the recycle bin).

My edges aren't quite right but the seams all meet up okay, so I'm okay with how they turned out. I can always work out the edges when I sew it all together later. I stopped at 3 blocks and still need to make another 12.

I ended my crafternoon by sitting down to stitch the stems of the wildflowers and then some crochet, while watching the rugby league grand final on telly.

How was our Sunday? I hope you got some crafty time too.

  4. I adore this quilt. Your fabric choices are really lovely. I know what you mean about those quilts with lots of 'parts'. Sometimes I get in my head that is too hard but actually it's often easier to pick up than what you initially think. I need to take my own advice. hehe

    1. Yes, I hear you. I bought this quilt pattern booklet years ago (because everyone else was making it), but it looked too hard and I was time poor so put it away for later. I'm glad I found it again and decided to start working through the parts - slowly. I still haven't made those 12 periwinkle blocks that I'd planned a couple of days ago. Hope you're well and having a fab week :)

  8. These blocks are just pure fun! A rainy day is perfect for some sewing. Cleaning up my sewing room is not my favourite activity either.

    1. For me, cleaning the sewing room leads to no-sewing and discovering more distractions and UFO's. Hope you're having a lovely week :)

  9. I love your little star blocks! Are they Priscilla blocks or am I confusing them with a similar block style? Love your teapot block, too. I rebelled yesterday and took a nice, long nap for most of my rainy Sunday afternoon. It felt so good to wake up on Monday morning feeling completely rested and ready for my day. Planning to get some good stitching time in later this morning, as soon as I've finished this cup of coffee!

    1. I've not heard of Priscilla blocks, but I will go and have a look on google. The pattern refers to them as Periwinkle blocks. I had 12 to make when I wrote the blog post and I still have 12 to make. Can't rush these things :)
Naps are the BEST! I hope you got lots of stitching done.
