Custom Name Cushions

I spent a lovely afternoon in the sewing room yesterday. Gosh it was nice. It feels like ages since I've been able to have any 'real' time in there as it's usually only little snippets here and there as I'm in the middle of doing other things.

I finished off a couple of custom name cushions which were commission orders. These are for two little cousins, born within weeks of each other.

Rather than choose very 'babyish' prints, I figured something bright and fun that they'll appreciate through toddlerhood was appropriate.

For Carter, I chose the blue space theme print fabric with rocket ships.

And Sebastian has a green dinosaur theme.

I think the thing which takes the longest in this process is deciding on the font to use for their names. Carter had a good name for a cursive font. Sebastian's name looked better in a standard lower case font.

I've had a number of people ask me how I do the lettering and honestly it's very easy using word art in google draw. Let me know in the comments if you'd like a tutorial for this method.

While playing around in the sewing room, I watched a couple of videos on the 'new to me' online crafty platform called CreativeBug.

I enjoyed watching some of this Dear Diary Daily Quilting Challenge by Anna Maria Horner class which inspires us to make daily blocks in varying degrees of difficulty, over a period of time. At the end of it, you have a lovely sampler style quilt.

They have a special deal where you can access and watch all of the classes for 3 months for only $5 in total. I always tend to look at the quilting or sewing classes first, but there are all sorts of categories available including crochet, cricut, journaling, papercraft, drawing... just to name a few.

With the winter school holidays starting here tomorrow, I'm sure my daughter will have a lot of fun checking out the available classes. She's like her mumma and enjoys spending time creating.

This year I went from 2 grandchildren to 5, plus 4 "adopted" grandchildren! I've been loving your cushions for ages and would love a tutorial....I have plenty of children waiting! Thank you in advance and also for all of your inspiration!

Your pillows are inspiring. I am checking out Word Art. I really would love to make these for my grandchildren. They just are a great item for a kid.A tutorial would be great, too.
