I few prepared hexagons remained, so rather than leave them in a drawer, all lost and forgotten, I decided to turn these into more hexagon flowers. And then, with a big stack of recycled hexagon papers from the previous project, I thought I'd prepare just a few more hexies... and then a few more...
I have now made another 38 hexie flowers, with no plan other than to make hexie flowers. This is the project which I bring along with me when I'm going to be a passenger in the car for more than a few minutes.
Now that I look at my basket of scrappy 2.5" squares that I've been cutting up, my thoughts turn to using some of them to make just a few more hexies. I seem to be lacking yellow, purple and green ones. And maybe some orange ones too.
Do you have a Passenger Project too?

In other news, I woke up to the sound of rain on the rooftop. It's been such a long time since we've heard that sound around here. And the weather people have forecast it to continue (on and off) for the next few days.
It's my birthday on Saturday, so if we get some rain on the day, I'll be very happy. Hubby and the kids are planning on a Hawaiian theme for when we have some friends over to celebrate, later in the afternoon, but I'm more than happy to bring the luau inside if it means we're getting some drips and drops from the sky.
What are you thankful for, this Thursday?

Very pretty group of hexie flowers! I hope you get more rain on Saturday for your birthday!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I just need to work out what project I'll use them in. Fingers crossed for a weekend of rain :)
DeleteLovely hexis. I must admit I could not get past your lovely tin.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely birthday and hopefully we will get this promised rain.💦
Thank you! I really love this Twinings tin too. I bought it from the supermarket a few years ago with the intention of using it for sewing supplies (not for the tea inside). Best thing is that it fits perfectly into the centre console of the car when we arrive at our destination.
DeleteWe've had lots of rain this afternoon along with a pretty wild thunderstorm. Hoping it keeps going through the weekend and that it falls on the areas that most need it.
I do have a passenger project... it is knitting penguin jumpers at the moment as I can do that without watching what I am doing (otherwise I feel sick)…. Your hexie flowers are so pretty...

Yay for car projects. I love your penguin jumpers. Sometimes I feel guilty for not taking turns in driving, but hubby would just sit there and waste time by snoozing. I think I'm much more productive with passenger time ;)
DeleteOh and Happy Birthday for Saturday...
ReplyDeleteHugz
Thank you xx
DeleteI often make hexies just because I can, it is something that I find very relaxing and eventually there will be a use for them. I recently sewed some hexie flowers onto small drawstring pouches as Christmas presents. x
ReplyDeleteThey really are a relaxing way to pass the time. Drawstring pouches with hexies sound really lovely.
DeleteI don't have a passenger project , but now I want one - those look great!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to you on Saturday and yes, that would make an awesome passenger project. I am not so much a passenger anymore, but I and a sit and wait "Granny" for a afternoon pickup. I have been trying to think what I could do instead of just sitting there, that would be a fun project to learn and start. Thanks for the tip. Again, wishing you a happy, and raining Birthday !
ReplyDeleteThese hexagon flowers are really fun to put together with all sorts of scrap fabrics. And yes, I completely agree that you should start making some too. Everyone should make some :)
DeleteHave a lovely afternoon and thank you for the birthday wishes x
I love your little box for the hexies. Did your finished flowers fit in the box too? And did you do the sewing on the plane too? You got a lot done!
ReplyDeleteYes, they fit perfectly inside the tin too, though when I get about 10 made, I have to move them otherwise the tin lid doesn't like to stay closed.
DeleteI didn't sew hexagons on the plane as it's generally a night flight so really hard to see, but I did do some crocheting. I just can't stop crafting!
Hexies were my 'to go' project for a few years running, but I finally grew tired of them. I dig them out every so often and work with them. You’re right, they are a great passenger project! Currently, my 'to go' project is 3.5” drunkard path blocks. Have a wonderful birthday!
ReplyDeleteYes I hear you. I did a lot of hexies and then stopped and then picked it up again. It's the sort of thing that's fun to work on when all of the hexagons are all glued and ready to put together but the thought of sitting and preparing them is what puts me off (just a little).
DeleteYou hand sew your drunkard path blocks? Ooooh I must learn more about this. I've never really hand pieced a quilt before (other than this type of EPP or embroidery/applique) so I'm keen to have a go. I shall go and google.
Have a wonderful afternoon :)
sweeeet. I also carry a box with hexies, fabric stack, needles thread tiny scissors etc. I am rarely a passenger, but I do take this along to my daddy's doctor visits This way I look busy, and can listen, but the doctor will talk with my daddy (age 96)
ReplyDeleteI usually take a few notes, and clarify any instructions.
Happy Birthday Anorina. Have a happy fun time with your friends
Hi Rosemary, we just love to have a craft project at the ready, don't we? Your dad is doing well. In Australia, when a person turns 100, they get a birthday letter for the Queen (of England).
DeleteThank you for the birthday wishes. It was a lovely weekend, but over very quickly. Only 364 more days to go until the next one :)
Your hexie flowers are so pretty in all those sweet colors! It's fun to have sewing that's may or may not turn into something, but you enjoy it all the same!
ReplyDeleteYes this is absolutely true. Sewing, just for the joy of sewing :)
DeleteThanks for idea about hexie flowers. Happy for you that blessed rain is falling and I hope there is gentle wind too to clear the air.
ReplyDeleteWe had the most lovely wet weekend with a lot of slow rain (the type that soaks in).
DeleteI hope you've had a great weekend too :)
Happy Birthday and gorgeous hexies.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much :)
DeleteCan't wait to see what you do with these. I'm needing a travelling project and can't decide between hexies or applique. The plane leaves in two weeks!
