Oatmeal Raisin : Perfect 5 Quilt Along

Welcome to my stop on the Perfect 5 Quilt Along featuring the new book 'Perfect 5 Quilts' by It's Sew Emma and the 5" Creative Grids Ruler.

The Perfect 5 Quilts book is filled with 16 quilt patterns, all based on the humble 5" charm square. Charm Packs were one of the first specialty precuts to appear in quilting stores. Charm packs deliver a variety of fabric prints/colours usually within a fabric collection. They're versatile, great for making quick projects and I'm sure I'm not the only one who can't resist adding a charm pack or two to my cart when I'm shopping at my favourite online quilt store.

The Creative Grids 5" ruler is just perfect for working with these little square fabric delights. Use it to cut an array of popular shapes from a 5" square, or use it to cut your own 5" squares from larger pieces of fabric.

What I find best about the Creative Grids rulers is the non-slip edge. Such a great feature to have. I wish all of my old rulers had this edge on them to save wibbly wobbly cutting mishaps.

This week is showcasing the Chocolate Chip and Oatmeal Raisin Quilt blocks. They sound delicious, right?

I decided to make the oatmeal raisin block because I like the way the colourful squares seem to spin around the centre block. This is  a simple block to make with 2 charm squares and some contrasting (I used white solid) fabric.

I ended up making 4 blocks and with those blocks, decided that I would make a new cushion. It was a perfect afternoon project and I love how it turned out. I used the new Granny Chic fabric by Lori Holt and then for the binding, I used some gingham fabric from an older range, still by Lori. I love how her fabric ranges all seem to work so well together.

The Perfect 5 Quilts book is the perfect inspiration to use up those charm packs that may be in your stash. Or splash out and buy some new ones to play with. You can never have too much fabric, right?

Purchase the Perfect 5 Quilts book, the 5" Creative Grids Ruler and the Granny Chic range of fabric from the Fat Quarter Shop.

    1. Thanks Shez. That rough texture on the back of the ruler really helps hold the ruler in place for cutting. I might need to put the bigger ruler on my Christmas wish list. Enjoy your afternoon xx
