My Dreamweaver Quilt is complete. I am so very pleased with how it turned out and I'm even more pleased that I kept at this slow sew project until completion.
I completely hand quilted Dreamweaver with Aurifil 12wt cotton thread. I'm glad that I made the switch from using the thicker perle 8 weight cotton which was my initial plan. The thread slid quite smoothly through the multiple layers.
I'll take a moment here to recommend the Jeana Kimball's Foxglove Cottage Milliners/Straw Needles Size 8 for the hand quilting. They're long and strong and you can thread the Aurifil 12 weight thread quilt easily through them. Initially, I wasn't sure how I was going to quilt the background. I'd thought perhaps some machine quilting would be easiest, but am glad that I decided to hand quilt. I used light neutral colours to quilt random wavy lines to represent wind and give the design movement.
This photo in direct sunlight shows the quilting lines quite well. The texture of this quilt is just delightful and I love running my hands over it.
I used a black and white stripe print fabric for the binding. It's my most favourite and I'm glad I bought a lot of yardage a few years ago as it's certainly my "go-to" to finish off a quilt.
I enjoyed working this project so very much and I do recommend slowing down and adding some un-rushed, deadline-free, slow sewing to your life.

DeleteGorgeous! You are a wonderful quilter! Do you print a pattern on your quilt for the hand quilting or do you just do it free form? Whatever, it is all beautiful!

DeleteThis one was all free form. If I'm quilting something with a specific design in mind, I usually use chalk or a hera marker to print a pattern to follow with my quilting.
Its just lovely... and I can hear how much you enjoyed making it just how you write about it.... well done its gorgeous..
