A Stitch in Time {Book Tour}

Good morning friends and welcome to my stop on the 'A Stitch in Time' book tour. I am super pleased for my friend Sharon (Lilabelle Lane) and the release of her second book with Tuva Publishing

A Stitch in Time is filled with lots of small, predominantly hand-sewn projects, which are portable (YAY!!) and can be completed in a relatively short period of time. I'm such a fan of these 'slow-sewing' type of projects and have embraced the idea by slowing down from the 'rush, rush, rush' of magazine commissions to working on slow projects, for my own pure enjoyment.

The hardest thing I found about A Stitch in Time, was choosing the first project. Omigosh! They're all really, REALLY pretty. I settled on the 'Together We Make a Family Mini Quilt' project. When Sharon was sharing sneaky little peeks of her projects on Instagram, I fell in love with this one instantly.

First of all, I chose my 2 alternating fabrics for the Dresden Ring and then decided on the embroidery floss that would work with the prints.

Once I'd completed the embroidery panel, I made the EPP templates from freezer paper. I traced and cut out the required amount of each, pressed the papers to the back of the fabric and then thread basted the fabric to the EPP pieces.

After a good press with a hot iron, I sewed the Dresden pieces together, pressed again really well and then removed the papers before machine appliqueing them to the background.

I finished my mini quilt by sandwiching batting and backing and free motion quilting around the Dresden Ring. The lovely light pink and white gingham print for the binding, finished off this mini quilt perfectly.

I think I'll give it to my mum for her birthday which is coming up this week. I'm sure she'll find somewhere nice to hang this mini quilt at home.
