It's been a relatively quiet week here and other than the usual housework, errands or kid related things that needed attending to, I've been lucky to have some quiet time to myself. We had a couple of rainy days which meant that being cozy inside with my stitching, was just what was needed.
I read about the Kingfisher Quilt SAL on IG and really loved the pictures that @talesofcloth shared. In that moment, I decided to join in and make a start. I hadn't really made hexies for a while and was itching to start a new slow-sewing project.
I think what I liked most about this project was that each hexie in the flower used a different fabric, grouped into colour... although in all honesty, there is no rule to suggest you even need to stick to a colour group for each flower. I love these types of "no-rules" projects.
I gathered my supplies and found a couple packets of 1" precut hexagon papers in my stash. I sat down with my glue stick and my tub of random scrap fabrics beside and started to prepare the hexagons. It's really quite nice to dig my hand into the tub and pull out a scrap piece and remember what I originally used it for.
At this stage, I've been preparing hexies during the daytime and then stitching them up in the afternoon and evenings. It's nice to sit and stitch after the kids are home from school, knowing that we don't have to go anywhere or be anywhere for the rest of the day.
Before long, I ran out of my pre-cut hexagon papers so needed to make more myself, especially if I wanted to save myself a trip into town. I remembered that I'd bought some of the Fiskars hexagonal paper cutters a while ago so had a rummage around and found my XL size one, which is the 1" hexagon size. Perfect! Hubby has a box full of manila folders in the study, so I helped myself to a few of those and made myself a whole bunch of hexagons, all ready to use.
If you'd like to get one of these Fiskars hexagon paper cutters, I've included the Amazon link (below) along with a few other useful products to make this project.
When was the last time you made some EPP hexies?
Are you participating in the Kingfisher Quilt SAL too?
I am participating too. This is my first foray into EPP. So far I am loving it. The stitching of the hexies and putting together the flowers is so calming. Yours are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAt first I thought you had made a wreath...and was intrigued! Hexies or any EPP is the perfect project for a quiet evening! I think the QAL is going to be so much fun to watch. I can't wait to see what everyone is up to!

ReplyDeleteI follow you
ReplyDeleteI need a stitchalong to keep me focussed and the Kingfisher ones sounds great, will google...love your hexis soo bright and cheery! Do you think hubby will notice his missing manila folders, classic save lol
ReplyDeleteIt is nice to have a pick up and put down project. A wreath of pretties.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy you quiet time! You hexies are beautiful. Love the rainbow wreath that shows them off. Looking forward to see what you make with these fun colorful hexies.
ReplyDeleteI iron two sheets of freezer paper together, glossy side is ironed on the paper side of the second sheet, then i don't have to glue the bottom. This adds a stiffness to the hexies. It stays in place as i sew or glue around the hexie.
ReplyDeleteCould someone point me in the right direction to find info about this project? I love hexies and have a box of them just waiting for a finish. I would love to do this. Thank you in advance for your help.
