It was a glorious Autumn weekend in Sydney. We made the most of the sunny, yet crisp weather by spending time in around the harbour.
On a Sunday, you can travel on public transport for only $2.50 - total! Catch as many trains, buses or ferries as you like for that lowly sum.
As a family, for only $10 we got a train into central station, got a tram into Chinatown for lunch, back to central station and another train into Circular Quay.
We then hopped on the next ferry that was leaving, because really, it's all about the ride, not so much the destination. Turns out we were heading to Taronga Zoo and back to Circular Quay - this is a 30 minute round trip and a quiet ferry, especially in the middle of the day.
After getting back, we bought a cold drink and jumped on the Darling Harbour ferry - this one takes approximately 1 hr to get back to Circular Quay with about 6 or 7 stops along the way. Next time, we may get off at one of the north Sydney side stops and go for a little explore, but on Sunday, we were just happy to enjoy sitting on the outside deck of the ferry and watch the world go by.
The Darling Harbour route is our favourite. We get up close and personal with the Sydney Opera House and zoom under the Sydney Harbour Bridge. On the way back to the Quay, once we pass under the bridge the ferry picks up a little bit of speed and the kids enjoy putting their arms over the edge to get sprayed with the salt water.
We sail by some ahhhhmazing houses, right on the waters edge. They probably cost a bazillion dollars, but can you imagine the view?
Honestly, for such a bargain price, spending the day cruising around the harbour is a wonderful way to spend some time with the kids. We're making lovely family memories and exploring our local surroundings. My kids love these little adventures and I hope once they're all grown up, they'll think back on these times fondly.
In other news, my sewjo seems to have gone on holiday. If you see it, feel free to send it back home to me.
What's your favourite thing to do around your city?
Do you have any tips to get your sewjo back?
Hi Anorina what fun for you and the kiddies,i love the market at the rock, havent seen much of Sydney other than the rock.
ReplyDeleteSometimes my friend i think you just need a break from sewing and when you are rested your mojo will come back to you ,take care xx
Sydney is always a joy to visit. It's so annoying when your sewjo goes on holiday. I agree with Shez, it just means you need time out. Funnily enough I was like that recently and I headed to Sydney to look at the water. And went on lots of walks in the Mountains. It'll come back to you.
