Posy Garden is the beautiful new range of fabric by Carina Gardner for Riley Blake Designs and I am soooo pleased and excited to be a part of it. Thank you Carina xx
Posy Garden is pretty and modern. Bold yet delicate and soft... it's just wonderful and I love how all of the florals and geometric prints work harmoniously.
I enjoyed playing around with the fabrics and had a lot of different ideas on what I should create to showcase Posy Garden. I decided on a patchwork pillow with a panel of embroidery. You know me - I can't resist adding a little bit of handwork to a project.
I love this little pillow and the message is quite special and uplifting. I found the quote on Pinterest and even though I found other great lines, I kept going back to this one. It's by Audrey Hepburn and I must admit that in the end, I chose this quote as a play on the fabric name and Carina's surname ;-)
If you'd like to make your own embroidered pillow you can DOWNLOAD AND PRINT it here.
To complete the panel, I transferred the words onto a plain white solid cotton fabric with my pigma pen. I have a light box which makes transferring a design easy, but holding it up to a bright (day time) window works just as well. I fused some stabiliser to the back. My preferred is Parlan brand which is a thin fleecy polyester. I then worked the embroidery with back-stitch in DMC Perle 8 cotton in a claret (maroon) colour.
After creating this pillow, I decided to create some hexies. I love an EPP hexagon or two. I sewed up a little pouch and embellished the front with a Posy Garden hexie flower. I filled it with sweets and gave it to a friend who has been having a little bit of a tough time lately. She loved it and it's the perfect size for her handbag to hold all of the bits and pieces (rather than have them floating around the bottom). You know the stuff I mean... gum, lip gloss, pens, panadol etc...
I loved it so much, that this afternoon, I made another little pouch with the main Posy fabric in Navy. The lining is in the Posy Navy Grid. This pouch pattern is a freebie over at the Fat Quarter Shop.
Beautiful pillow - love the saying - it is perfect! Cute little pouch!
