Gather some supplies and create these sweet little “Hanging Hearts” to decorate your tree this Christmas. These little hearts are quite addictive and you won’t be able to stop at just one – best of all, they’re a great way to get your kids crafting for Christmas.
The kids can help with the sewing portion, but ifyou’re they’re not confident on using the sewing machine, there is always the stuffing and cutting they can assist with.
We’ll be adding a couple of these sweet Hanging Hearts to our teacher gifts at the end of the week.
To make these hanging hearts, you’ll need:
Assorted 5” squares of fabric
Red/White bakers twine (or ribbon or ric rac etc)

Method:
Align 2 squares of fabric with wrong sides together. Place the heart template on the print fabric and pin it through all of the layers (paper, fabric and fabric).
** Rather than pinning the paper heart, trace around it using a pencil or frixion pen.
Use the pinking shears to cut approximately 1/4" outside of the heart shape.
Cut an 8" piece of bakers twine (or ribbon etc). Fold it in half and place it inside of the fabric layers and the top centre of the heart. Ensure it's at least 3/4" inside the heart shape as it will be sewn in. (image above right)
Starting two-thirds of the way down of the right side, sew all the way around the heart shape leaving a 1" gap for stuffing.
Stuff the heart shape with polyester fill.
Finish sewing the opening of the heart shape and then sew all the way around again, right on top the previous stitches.
NB: Fill the heart with polyester fill and sprinkle in some cinnamon and cloves for festive scented hearts.
Now go forth and create lots and lots and lots of pretty hearts. Happy Sewing!!
