Savor Each Stitch: Studio Quilting with Mindful Design is a book by popular blogger, pattern and fabric designer, Carolyn Friedlander.
Carolyn brings her unique, fresh perspective to quilting – combining modern ideas, designs and methods with traditional needle turn applique and hand quilting. Her designs are quite different to the “modern” quilts which we normally see, and I for one, have enjoyed looking through her work and more importantly, being inspired to get in there and create a “Carolyn” style project.
Savor Each Stitch is broken down into classic design elements: Line, Contrast, Scale, Colour, Emphasis, Volume and Texture.
Each element is explained in detail and then a project is included. The wonderful thing about this book is that we are given different colour and fabric print options. This assists in highlighting the lessons we learn in each chapter. Along with different fabric options, different project size options are also included within each project (ie. Full size quilts, table runners, wall quilt, lap quilt etc).
I have thoroughly enjoyed this book and have started to cut out my pieces for an Aerial Grove (variation) quilt. If you’re like me and a big fan of quite modern hand-sewing projects, this could be a fun book for your craft book library.
Savor Each Stitch by Carolyn Friendlander is available in Australia from Booktopia and Can Do Books and internationally from Amazon.

“Hand quilting, needle-turn appliqué, thoughtful design choices and experimentation replace the fast and easy counterparts found in many pattern books. The author will take readers from sketch, to experimentation, to final result all shot on location in and around her inspirational Florida studio.”
