The Grecian Square Block is a fun one to create. It’s simple, fast and if you create this 18” size block, it’s perfect showcasing fabrics with large prints.
It almost looks a little bit like a jumbled up Monkey Wrench block, don’t you think? To make this 18” Grecian square block, the measurements are just below. I’ll also include measurements to create a 12” (finished) block version further down.
Cutting A
(2) 6 7/8” x 6 7/8” – white
(2) 6 7/8” x 6 7/8” – print
Cross cut these diagonally to create (4) HST’s of each.
** HST = Half Square Triangle
Cutting B
(4) 6 ½” x 3 ½” – white
(4) 6 ½” x 3 ½” – print
Cutting C
(1) 6 ½” x 6 ½” – print
Sew the (A) print and white HST’s to create a square. Trim and press.
Sew the (B) print and white rectangles along the long edges. Trim and press.
Lay out the block components (use the diagram above as a reference).
Sew the components of each row and press.
Sew the rows together and press.
Make one block, quilt it and make a large cushion for your couch.
Make four of these large blocks to create a fun baby quilt.
Make 9-12 blocks for a lovely lap size or picnic quilt.
Make 16-20 blocks for a good size bed quilt.
