It seems that 2013 is shaping up to be a slow sewing year – BUT – I do have a new quilt to share: Sew Stitchy Squares

This quilt has been an absolute pleasure to make. The blocks are basic and come together very quickly which makes this quilt great for a beginner or a quick finish project.
The Sew Stitchy Squares Quilt is made up of a jelly roll and a charm pack. It’s so simple to put together and makes a beautiful handmade gift for a new baby, or simply something lovely to snuggle under on the couch.
The fabric which I used was Sew Stitchy by Aneela Hoey. The colours just sing to me and I think the little lady (who it is intended for) will love it too.
To make the block:
1 charm square (5” square)
1 jelly roll strip (2.5” x WOF)
Cross cut the jelly roll strip (per the image below)
(2) 2.5” x 5” strips
(2) 2.5” x 9” strips
The finished block will measure 9” square.
I used 36 charm squares to make 36 blocks – my Sew Stitchy Squares Quilt is 6 blocks across x 6 blocks down.
Then it’s a matter of arranging the final quilt layout on your design wall (you lucky thing) or on the floor like me.
Sew the blocks together to form 6 rows.
For well aligned seams, press the blocks to alternating sides before sewing the rows together.
Once the top is all together, sandwich with the backing and batting. Baste and then quilt as desired. I went for a meandering quilt design.
The finished quilt measures 51” square. It can easily be made into a larger twin-bed size quilt with another charm pack and jelly roll.

ReplyDeleteOh, what a great way to use up scraps, too, if you don't have charms and a jelly roll---a little more cutting but you can really personalize it
