It’s that time again – Bloggers Quilt Festival time.
Amy Ellis of Amy’s Creative Side, is once again hosting this fun party for quilters. So many beautiful quilts have already been submitted – stop on over and have little look. Here is the link.
I am entering my latest quilt, which I called Sugared Almonds. I made if for my grandmother, who has recently moved into a nursing home due to her health.
The colours of the Coquette range by Chez Moi, remind of the sugared almonds my gran used to treat us with, when my sister and I were little.
I used a jelly roll of Coquette plus and solid white cotton yardage.
I quilted it in a meandering loopy design. I love this next photo – it shows the quilting in a cool new way.
I did promise to write up a tutorial, and I have received several emails from a few people reminding me. I will do it – hopefully this week. My husband is back home so I may have more time up my sleeve.
I’d love to know what you think I should call this quilt design. This specific quilt is Sugar Almonds, because of the colours and the recipient, but it can be made with any fabrics.
I was thinking something with “strips” in the name? Not sure though.

ReplyDeleteI'm going to just spit this out: 1. Eleanor Burns does a lot of "strip" titles (and I steer clear of them because...) 2. If someone is unsure of the name and puts "strips" in a search engine, what comes up in the USA is a bunch of websites where women "strip" their clothes off! (Also known as "strippers"--not sure if that is the same terminology used in Australia).

ReplyDeleteLovely!! I can't wait for the tutorial!! Like Sugar Almonds for a name too but if you want strips, how about licorice strips?! They do come in lots of colours these days ;)

ReplyDeleteWow what a great quilt. I am sure it brightens up your Grandmothers day to see it and all who pop into her room. What about naming it the sunshine and happiness quilt - that is because the picture has sunshine shinning on it and the happy smiling face of your little one. I am sure it makes all who see it smile too. Thanks for sharing.
