I managed to remove the incorrect number from the quilt (which you saw previously) and can now say that the gift for my sons teacher is FINISHED!
The birdie has even had his eye attached, and can see. Yay!
Having completed this project, I’ve re-discovered how much I really, REALLY enjoy raw edge applique.
I think it’s something to do with feeling pleased with myself, that I managed to stitch so close to the edge of the applique without going over onto the backing.
PS Don’t forget that charm packs of ‘Twirl’ by Me & My sister for Moda are on sale at only $9.50 (+ shipping) in my store.

I love the way you applique! It is so pretty and your quilting on the background fabric is fantastic! Do you just use a normal stitch to go around your raw edge fabric pieces? I've been using a blanket stitch lately to experiment... I really like it but I am bad at corners and sharp curves but learning is fun :)
ReplyDeleteReally sweet and I like the raw edge applique , have been experimenting with that myself lately and it is fun.
ReplyDeleteThat is so beautiful! I wish I had the patience and dedication to do something like that....
ReplyDeleteThat pieces is very pretty...his teacher should love it....beautiful work.
ReplyDeletelooks great.........you are going to have one happy teacher.........
ReplyDeleteI didn't think I would but the hand blanket stitching is quite sooting!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely teacher gift! I LOVE your applique design!
ReplyDeleteI also love to applique. Although I recently finished some small raw edge applique projects, my favorite is needle-turn hand applique. Making a Baltimore album-style quilt is on my Bucket List.

I love this tree. I'd love to be able to do this, but my machine appliqué is definitely at the novice level. I've printing out this post and I'm going to hang it up by my machine so that it can lift my spirits as I learn.
ReplyDeleteYes I love applique in all its shapes and styles, and I love you little birdie in a tree
ReplyDeleteThat is so lovely - a nice change from the usual teacher gifts - fantastic applique and quilting - I know its "practice practice practice" but . . .
