English paper piecing is the process of tacking your fabric over papers. These shapes are then joined together by facing the right sides together and using a small whip stitch to adjoin the edges.
You can cut a paper shape for every patch in the quilt - then use the paper templates to construct your project OR once a shape is stitched to other shapes, the paper foundation can be removed.
The most common shape used for English paper piecing projects is the good old hexagon. They’re my absolute favourite and I participate in hexagon flower swaps and even a hexagon quilt a long!
The only part of English paper piecing which I don’t like (and I’m sure many of you feel the same way) is cutting out the shapes. Soooo time consuming!!!
You’re probably wondering, where am I going with all of this?
