Remember my post about the Quilt & Craft fair last month? No? Well you can pop over and have a look now. The link is HERE. Go on. I’ll wait.
Why am I referring to this post you ask? Well I wrote about the workshop I’d attended with Sue Daley and my discovery of the Sewline Glue Pen. I was in love with it then, and I’m still in love with it now.
I use the glue pen for my English paper piecing, but there are many more uses for it – including applique, quilting and general sewing. It’s a water soluble blue glue which dries clear and quickly. Once glued, the fabric pieces can be pulled apart, so not to worry if they are misplaced or need to be adjusted.
I hate tacking. It’s the most tedious part of English paper piecing. It takes so long and then you end up with little bits of thread all over the place. The Sewline glue pen is the perfect solution.
I just dot the glue stick in 3 places along the line of the fabric and then fold over onto the paper. Finger press for a second and it’s stuck down. Perfect!
I think this product is fantastic, so I wrote to Sewline and told them so. Sewline have kindly given me some of these glue pens to giveaway. But more on that later…
I just want to tell you a little bit about a few other Sewline products which I’ve had the opportunity to review, like the Sewline Trio.
I love to stitch. I’ve always used the water soluble blue pens to transfer the designs onto the fabric. You know the ones? They’re great, though sometimes, getting the blue ink to completely disappear can be hard. You spray it and it’s gone then when the fabric dries, little blue smudges appear again.
The Sewline Trio is a fabric pencil with a unique 360 degree rotating mechanism for three functions in one. It comes with a thin 0.9mm black lead for marking on lighter cloth, a 0.9mm white lead for dark cloth (completely invaluable) and a blank roller for tracing or making indentations on fabric. The pen also comes with a small eraser located underneath the top cover and a soft triangular grip. Refills are available so you don’t need to buy another whole new pen.
Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it? I tried it out last night and am smitten. I’m ready to throw out all of my blue pens and just use the Sewline Trio. The pencil lines are so thin and the transferred design looks so neat. Plus it doesn’t dry out. You can come back to it in a few months and it’s still going to work.
Sorry it’s not the best photo – taking photos at night isn’t a very good idea.
Sewline have lot’s of other great products like the AIRerasable Fabric Pen, AQUAeraser and the Sewline Needle Threader.

GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED
Well, tonight I'd say my seam ripper. I made a mistake and it was definitely nice to have it! =)
ReplyDeleteThat pen looks amazing...I need to look into that for embroidery!
Thanks for a lovely giveaway.
I follow your blog...thanks for an extra chance. =)
ReplyDeleteAnother great giveaway! That glue pen sounds beaut, ans so does that Sewline Trio- I must check it out. :)
ReplyDeleteI am already a follower, I forgot to say in my previous comment that I love my rotary cutter. :)
ReplyDeleteI am a follower already to your blog.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the one item in your sewing box which you just can’t live without? My needle threader has to be nearby because I cannot see how to thread a needle without it.
ReplyDeleteMy seam ripper my husband made me. It has a custom wooden handle.
ReplyDeleteI already follow your blog.
ReplyDeleteit's totally this glue pen! I LOVE it!!! I make hexies just about weekly and i use this everytime - it makes everything quicker, easier and neater too.
ReplyDeleteI am totally a follower too!
ReplyDeleteMy seam ripper!! After that I like my rotary cutter.

ReplyDeleteMy most important item would have to be the seam ripper(aka.the delete button)hahahaha
ReplyDeleteI love neat products, thanks for sharing. I use my
ReplyDeletedisappearing blue pen and my small curve tip embroidery scissors all the time.
I follow your blog on Google ReDsr
ReplyDeleteI follow you!
ReplyDeleteThats a hard one .... seam ripper? rotary cutter? Sewing machine!!! I know thats not in my sewing box, but it's in my sewing cabinet so nearly the same ;D
ReplyDeleteProbably my seam ripper..although I don't know what i'd do without my treasury of pins.
ReplyDeleteI'm also a stalker ... sorry, follower :) x
ReplyDeleteI'd have to say my clover needle threader. It's very useful for threading those tiny needles for appliqué for English Paper Piecing.
ReplyDeleteI have a question about glueing your pieces. Do you then wait until you're completely done your project to remove the papers? I mean, is the glue then released with water once you're done?
I'm currently working on a hexxie quilt, and I don't mind the tacking. Though it does take time, I've just prepared all my pieces while watching tele. I never thought to use glue to tack them, but I can see how that would be much faster.
I've started using the Sewline glue stick with my latest English Paper pieced project and I love it. So much easier than tacking with thread. So that's definitely one of my favorite tools. But the one I use most often (and therefor is my favorite) is my seam ripper. Sad, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteI'm also a follower, have been for a while now.
ReplyDeleteLike most people who sew, I would ahve to say my seam ripper, quick-unpick, whatever you want to call it! Imagine doing the job with a sewing needles and a pair of embroidery scissors? No thanks!
ReplyDeleteBTW, I do follow this blog - anonymously (don't know why; I follow over 100 blogs that way!!)Either way, I always know when you've posted!
My sister also uses these pens for her hexies, the trio pen looks fantastic, will have to go and have a look at the website you mentioned.
ReplyDeleteThe one thing I can't do without are my applique needles, using them is like using a hot knife to slice through hard butter they make the work so much easier and neater than ordinary needles :) Barb.
P.S: I'm also a follower :) Barb.
ReplyDeleteSorry to be repedative but it is my "quick unstitch" ... could not live without it. This sewline pen is also a great tool if you are making the Farmer's Wife quilt as it help secure the templates whilst you cut them!!!! I need another as my 9y.o daughter keeps borrowing mine for her sewing creations!! Thank you for the chance
ReplyDeleteI am also a follower! Thanks

ReplyDeleteI could not do without my sewing scissors, inherited from my mom. Every time I use them, and appreciate how sharp they still are, I remember how stern she was about us kids not borrowing them to cut paper. Now I understand!

ReplyDeleteTHANKS SO FOR SHARING!
jldouglas@wispwest.net
That pen sounds great. I do a lot of stitchery and there's always that worry about getting the blue pen out. One tool I could do without is my seam ripper. It gets quite a workout!
ReplyDeleteI'm a follower too. Thanks for the extra chance.
ReplyDeletesadly, the indispensable item is my seam ripper...
ReplyDeleteCan't do without my first needlethreader. I started sewing at age 10 and got it with my first needles and thimble. It is an oldfashioned one that you have to put through the eye of the needle then pull the thread through. It has gone out of business since i now use another (yay sewline!!!) but it still is in my sewingbox. Will never get rid of it.
ReplyDeletei am a follower
ReplyDeleteLol, another fan of the seam ripper (aka quick unpick) here! Since I started quilting though the rotary cutter and my patchwork rulers run a close second.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Robyn
Hey thanks for sharing this new to me glue pen. Looks like it will save me time when paper piecing and any time saved is a good thing, right. I cannot do without my seam ripper, just like everyone else. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI'm a follower too :D.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Robyn
There a so many.....How can I choose just one!!!!!! I guess if I had to pick one I would say my hand stitching needles.....Not much is going to happen without them!!!!! Have a great day....
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking lately how much I use my pinking shears. I got them a couple of years ago and I seem to use them constantly lately.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the crafty giveaway! I'm off to check out that pen now...
I'm a follower too!
ReplyDeleteI'm already a follower :)
ReplyDeleteI love my small very sharp Gingher scissors. Great for cutting applique shapes, hardanger and embroidery.
ReplyDeleteI love my AccuQuilt Studio. I don't think I'd quilt if I didn't own it. I just hate cutting without it that much.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried the Sewline products, but they look awesome. Now to see if they are available in Canada. . .
PS. . . I follow your blog

I look forward reading your blog updates, Anorina. Hugs from Donna in Brisbane.
ReplyDeleteI can't live without my FISKCARS spring-loaded scissors. They are about 5" long and got them at JoAnn Fabrics for about $15 on sale. LOVE them!

ReplyDeleteI would have to say my rotary cutter.

ReplyDeleteThe one thing I can't live without is my quick unpick. Reverse sewing is always happening in my sewing room!
ReplyDeleteI have been eyeing these pens off for a while now since iI began doing hexis. They are on my list for the craft fair. In my sewing box I have a cutting mat that is the size of a coaster ,I received it when I did a class at last year's fair. It is great. You can take it anywhere,Iam a follower and willl tweet about it.
ReplyDeleteSadly I cannot live without my trusty seam ripper, though this Sewline range looks like a must have!
ReplyDeleteI'm a follower of your blog.
ReplyDeleteI love my pin cushion thread catchers. I've made lots of them. They are all over the house. Really helpful when sewing away from the house, or, at the hand quilting frame to hold my needles. Next would be my needle threader. Great giveaway. I've been wanting to try those. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI can't live without my blue watersoluble pen, but I also bought one of those Sewline Trio pencils when I had to draw lines on dark fabric. Maybe I should spend more time bonding with it!!
ReplyDeleteOh, and I'm a follower too.
ReplyDeleteI think I need my seam ripper the most. Sometimes I keep it out to ward off the mistakes I might make! Doesn't usually work though. I love the sew line pencils. They are great. WOuld love to win the glue stick. Maybe I will try hexagons then. Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteI cannot live without my new Frixion Pens...I absolutely love them!!!

ReplyDeleteMy goodness... those are wonderful products! I can't live without my Gutermann hand quilting thread :) I love it's strength and ease of movement!
ReplyDeleteI can´t live without my seam ripper. What shall I do with my mistakes without my little "friend"?
ReplyDeleteI´m a follower of your wonderful blog, too.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to go with good pins. I usually need the seem ripper when I haven't pinned enough!
ReplyDeleteI'm a follower.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't live without my rotary cutter.
ReplyDeleteI am a follower already... I have used a glue baste it ..in a dropper bottle ..but that pen looks much easier to use.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't live without my beeswax, which helps my hand sewing/quilting thread to stay tangle free and easy to manage.
ReplyDeleteI could not live without my seam ripper, although the rotary cutter comes in at a close second :)
ReplyDeleteI follow on GFC
ReplyDeleteHow on earth can I choose. I have to say my rotary cutter, but without my ruler, I'm in trouble when quilting. That glue pen sure would help with my applique. I will be making a quilt with a beach scene that has a black and white light house that has diamond shapes on it.
ReplyDeleteJust one item? Hmmm...I'd have to say my scissors, though my sewing box usually has more than one pair in it at a time! I usually have my thread snips, curved tips, my Fiskars spring action scissors and of course the mini-blade sharpener! LOL
ReplyDeleteOh! Wait! I forgot to mention! I'm already a follower as well.
ReplyDeleteI love my scissor keeper, I can never find my scissors - but pull on the rabbit and out the scissors come!
ReplyDeleteI'm a flower......oops follower
ReplyDeleteI tweeted this #IndiannaDreams. Oh I also love the flower embroidery pattern above. Did you design it?
ReplyDeleteWell, I tweeted about it. I mentioned you in the tweet as I follow you on Twitter as well. This is the link to my Twitter name. Not sure if this is what you were asking for. (Been a LONG day. Sorry!)

ReplyDeleteI'm doing this in reverse order, coz I'm still trying to decide on which item in my sewing tools I couldn't live without....so this comment is just to say I'm a follower! Hugs Naomi
ReplyDeleteIf I can't say 'inspiration' is the one item I can't live without in my sewing box, then it would have to be the humble nappy pin....can be used for sew many different things. There are more items I also couldn't live without, but I wanted mine to be different from everyone else! Hugs Naomi
ReplyDeleteWow, what a great giveaway! I've heard great things about the pens. The one thing I couldn't live without in my sewing kit is, of course, needles! I took a hiatus from quilting and had moved across the Atlantic by the time I got back into it. I wasn't sure if I'd stick with it, but out came the needles and some of my old thread and I'm working on paper piecing hexagons for quilts for my daughters. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a follower!
ReplyDeleteSeam ripper, hands down!
ReplyDeleteMy pin cusion. Otherwise my little guys would be into the needles and poke themselves (or each other ;)
ReplyDeleteSeam ripper -- I call my "RIP-IT" like a frog!
