Ruby & The Farmers Wife

The ruby is a pink to blood-red colored gemstone, a variety of the mineral corundum (aluminium oxide). The red color is caused mainly by the presence of the element chromium. Its name comes from ruber, Latin for red. (Wikipedia)

For those of us, who are fabric lovers, Ruby is also the latest offering by Bonnie & Camille for Moda Fabrics. It's a lovely new range with fresh, happy colours and design. It is very similar to their previous range, Bliss... but this is not a bad thing. I love Bliss, therefore, Ruby is also a new favourite.

I'm lucky to have a Ruby charm pack in my hot little hand - literally.

If you'd like to have some of this Ruby loveliness in your hot little hand too, then go on over and visit Jane at Want it! Need it! Quilt Store. She has a variety of Ruby pre-cuts available, BEFORE everyone else does (most online quilt stores are due to release this line in October 2011). Not only are they available early, they're VERY reasonably priced.

I've got a plan for Ruby, plus Ruby's older sister, Bliss :-)

I've decided to join in The Farmer's Wife Quilt A Long. The group is going to work on 2 of these 6" blocks per week, which should take roughly a year to complete. There are 111 blocks in total, so it's going to be a long commitment. I'm sure there will be weeks when I won't make any blocks, but other weeks where I might put out a dozen.

This sounds like a fun QAL and it's growing momentum on Flickr and in twitterland (#FWQAL hashtag). I bought my book from the Book Depository but I hear it's available on Amazon.

And now for the winner of the Australian Good Taste magazine giveaway.

Random.Org has chosen...

Congratulations Crafty Mummy. I'll be in touch with you soon :-)

Happy Sunday!

  2. I have made a start to The Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt, and loving the journey. My target is five a week. Will you hand stitch each block or machine stitch? I chose to hand stitch; it is so relaxing to sit quietly in the evening and stitch. Good luck with your challenge!
