Can you skate? On ice? If you're one of the ones who thought, nope, well we're in the same boat.
Even though I don't know how to skate, it doesn't stop from loving Disney on Ice. The magical feeling that Disney can evoke is amazing. It makes you feel like a kid again. Okay, maybe it's just me.
Miss A and I were invited to go and meet Brian Duckworth and Melanie Carrington who are stars of Disney on Ice presents Worlds of Fantasy. Brian and Melanie play Simba and Nala from The Lion King and are also a couple in real life.
We arrived at the ice skating rink (our first time EVER) and saw Brian and Melanie skating on the ice. Lots of lifts, spins and stunts. Miss A was transfixed and to tell the truth, I was too.
They are so graceful and move so beautifully together. Brian and Melanie have their own romantic story which they shared with us. They met on a tour, have been skating together for 11 years AND are newlyweds. To top it off, they perform to 'Circle of Life' every show. Yes, very romantic!
They love to travel which is important as Disney on Ice tours 10 months of the year and a show can last for upto 5 years. The current show they're performing in took 2 years to travel through the US and moved onto Asia and now Australia. It will then head over to Europe.
Next up it was time for some skating lessons. Miss A was being shy so didn't want to have a go. And I, being the uncoordinated one, thought it best to stay on solid ground (and not embarrass myself by falling on my backside). We enjoyed watching the skating lesson though. Miss A scored a goodie bag and has adores her twirly Tinkerbell wand.
Disney On Ice presents Worlds of Fantasy is performing in Australia soon. Starting in Newcastle from 24 June, the show travels to Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide until 24 July.
The Cars characters perform stunts on the ice along with characters from The Lion King, The Little Mermaid and Disney Tinkerbell Fairies.
We had a wonderful time and look forward to seeing the show. You can purchase tickets through Ticketek.

You make this sound so exciting! I'd never thought I'd be interested in see Disney on Ice, but now I feel otherwise! I think I'd probably slice my fingers off if I tried to ice skate though!
ReplyDeleteI've seen one Disney on Ice show - it was a little while ago but it was so fun! I miss skating! Where's your little girl taking lessons?
ReplyDeleteWow!!! I've never seen a Disney on Ice show or even been in an ice skating rink for that matter, but it looks like a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteI havent been yet but I really wanted to take my daughter now that she's a bit older! Looks like a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteI remember going once as a little kid. Everyone had some light-up torch thing they'd bought but I wasn't allowed to have because it was too expensive. I was allowed to buy stickers though!
ReplyDeleteSo lovely to see Miss A's happy little face.
ReplyDeleteSo fun!!! I love taking my kids to Disney on Ice, it's one of the few things a 12 yrs old boy and 9 yrs old girl and 6 yrs old boy (autism) and 4 yrs old boys (ants in his pants) all enjoy together!! Skating lessons isn't an option on the Canadian Tour but how very romantic that the skaters are newlyweds!
