I love going to the theatre. To me it is a magical place of stories, song and dancing. I love the way the actors draw you in and bring a story to life with minimal props and backdrops.
When I was invited to attend the Sydney opening of Cats The Musical at the Capitol Theatre, I jumped at the opportunity. I have seen many musicals, but never Cats, so I took the chance to dress up and take one of my friends for a night on the town. We don’t often have the opportunity to experience this type of event – especially kid free!
Cats The Musical is inspired by the poems of T.S. Elliot which have been woven to tell the story of the Jellicle Cats. These Jellicle Cats gather once a year at their Junkyard to decided which Cat will travel to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life….. Pretty serious stuff.
Throughout the show we meet the different cats who tell us their story as they audition for the chance to be the chosen cat. In the end, it’s Grizabella who wins the prize, performed by Delta Goodrem.
It really was an enjoyable show, with non-stop dancing and singing. Delta’s final performance of the song “Memory” was absolutely magnificent and goose bump worthy. For this performance, Delta received a massive response from the audience before she ascended into kitty heaven.
Following its triumphant season in London’s West End, the acclaimed revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s record-breaking musical CATS comes to Australia for a strictly limited season, starring DELTA GOODREM.
Cats The Musical opened in Sydney on 30 October 2015. It is then touring to Hobart, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.
The 2015 Olivier award nominated hit revival, which was reworked for the most recent season in the West End by the original creative team received excellent reviews and extended its season due to overwhelming demand.
