52 Week Scrap Challenge

Something exciting is going to begin here at Samelia’s Mum, tomorrow. I’ve been working on this idea all week and finally it’s time to share it with you. Yay!

52 Week Scrap Challenge @ sameliasmum.com

My 52 Week Scrap Challenge is a new series which will appear here at Samelia’s Mum each Monday. I seem to be on a never ending battle to reduce my fabric scrap basket. Like most crafters, sewers and quilters, I can’t seem to throw out my left over fabrics.

So I’ve set myself a challenge - to share one new scrap busting project each Monday.

Perhaps you’d like to join in and create the weekly project with your scraps, and then share the pictures on your blog. We can set up a Flickr group or a Facebook group for our Weekly Scrap Busting Challenge efforts. I’ll also be looking for guest bloggers to participate in the challenge, so get your thinking caps on ;-)

So what do you think?

Is this something that would interest you?

  1. I may lag behind now & then but I'll be in it. My swing top bin is nearly full since I have been keeping scraps. xx

  2. Love this idea! My scrap bin is horrendously full right now. I might struggle with doing something every week but I'd most likely manage once a month if that was ok!

  4. I really need to organise my scraps!! I don't really have a ton - they would fit into 1 & a half shoe boxes, but they are really just a jumble of fabrics ... need to go sort out the larger bits from those only suitable for small appliqué shapes, and the strips from the squares :D ... Looking forward to this series!! x

  6. Great idea, I'm always looking for projects I can use the scraps in. I recently finished a quilt top entirely from my 2 (relatively) small scrap bins. The boxes are @ 2, 2.5 times the size of a shoe box; but packed with scraps. One bin is for the neutrals, one for the colors. I thought I would make a small quilt or possibly 2 for my "granddogs" to use the scraps. I used 1/2 the contents of the bins at most, and have a queen sized quilt top from it - amazing. The only yardage I used was 1.25 yds. from the stash for 2 narrow borders. The wide border was also pieced from the scraps. Sorry pups, you don't get this one. I try to make a couple of things from the scraps each year, it's one of my New Year's resolutions.

  12. I would love to follow along or even contribute to the cause! I am trying to reduce my stash of scraps as well. Thank you for putting this together. Sometimes it is hard to keep the focus of scrap reduction. :)

  13. I REALLY need to do this. I have this disease, at least that is what some of my family call it. Last week I actually BOUGHT about 25 pounds of scraps at the Goodwill Outlet store. I need to use them. Scrap projects are my absolute favorite!

  14. I'm working on organizing my scraps now, just started this week. I'm sorting by size and going to start cutting them up with my Accuquilt Studio fabric cutter into pieces I can actually use. I'd like to make a quilt a week using only my scraps. Let me know where to join the Facebook group, I'd love the inspiration!

  16. What a fantastic idea!
I am slowly starting to get more and more scraps and would ideally like to keep them all in balance before they do become a problem.
