I have three pincushions. The oldest is one of those wristband types I used to keep pins in when I had to climb ladders to hang students' work. It now houses my regularly used hand sewing needles. The second is hand knitted and holds the needle I use for sewing in the ends of my knitting, a few small safety pins and a needle threader designed for use with yarn. The newest one I bought at my LQS. It sits on the end of the pantograph shelf of my quilting frame and holds the long quilting pins we use to attach quilt layers to the frame.
So where do I keep my regular sewing pins, you ask? In an old screw top plastic hair cream jar that my grandmother gave me for storing pins about forty years ago. Grandsons can't open the pin "tin" so everyone is safe!
I have 3 that I use all the time: one downstairs by my sewing machine, a ring finger pin cushion for when I am at my work station, and the last one is by my chair upstairs to use. Thanks for the chance - the embroidery is beautiful!!
I have 7 pincushions... Three of them I made over 20 years ago! I make them because they are small, quick & easy, & cute to boot. They are great gifts too. I also have 2 pre-loved pincushions. In addition to those pincushions, I still have the container of pins I used during Home Ec when I was in high school in the mid-1980s.... I would love a chance to own this gorgeous redwork pincushion, count me in!
I have about 7 pincushions and up till about 12 months ago used a pin box. Having had a class where the teacher said" If you knock over the pins, you spend half the class picking them up. If I knock them over, you spend half the class picking them up" I quickly learnt to use a pincushion and am now lost without one.
I am the same as Jess, I don't have any! And I've keep dumping my container over all the time. I have to use a magnet to get the pins off the floor. LOL.
I didn't think I had many but doing a quick look around my sewing room I can see eight. Plus I know I have some put away with different projects! I love your red work pin cushion. Thanks for the chance.
Although I am an amateur sewer, I will have to try this tooth fairy cushion for my little toddler, he'll love it and I will be sure to add it to your flickr when I have my finished result. Thanks for the excellent instructions and the photo pics do help.
What a lovely pincushion! I have 4 or 5 pinchushions...and a couple of retired ones too! I keep them everywhere - 1 at the machine, on the cutting table, on the ironing board and in my travel kit!
I have three that I use every day, plus the others that I have made and can't bear to part with. The ones from my great aunt and grandma and friends. All up I think I have close to 20. But I would love to add another to my collection!!
I have 5 fabric pincushions. Two of them, I just made in the Zakka Style sewalong. I have one that was a table favor at the Norfolk SAGA convention in 2010, one "berry" cute one that was an extra gift to me in the Wild Olive stitch swap and a beautiful one that my best friend machine embroidered for me and I stitched it together. I love them all. Because my husband's feet find any wayward pin, I use the magnetic pinholders to hold most of my pins, but I still love my real pincushions the best. The one you made is lovely.
your little red pincushion is so lovely. right now i have one pincushion on top of the lid on a small box which is really my needle holder. i really need another one. quilting dash lady at comcast dot net
Very nice pincushion. Almost too beautiful to give away. Thanks for the chance! Have 4: One homemade in Gr 4 for pins, one magnetic one for pins whe I pin dresses in my livingroom, one for needles, and the other a wrist one for some projects away from the machine
That's an adorable pincushion. This will sound sad compared to some of the other answers but I have two; one really ugly pink one and a very cute one a blogger sent to me as a surprise in a package she sent me for something else I'd won.
And that ugly pink one is the one I use most of the time but only until I can replace it with something else. I've been meaning to make a new one. I even have the crushed walnut shells for stuffing a new one; just haven't had the time. I don't know what is inside this pink thing but it's next to impossible to stick my pins in there as I remove from something I'm sewing. I've bent more than one attempting to do that. It's like this thing is filled with little chunks of cement. LOL
Gorgeous! I have three pin cushions. The old red one that I think everyone started out with, you know the one, looks like a tomato, and two cupcake ones :)
